And then these two show how to make a rain gauge and the other one is an example of a page i found that could be the model for their weather journal: http://www.eduplace.com/rdg/gen_act/weather/rain.html

I will keep looking for a site that monitors severe weather news. The http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/wwatch/ gives the option as well to see the storms going on around the world.

Those are good resources! I like the weather journal page also. It is a nice way for students to record the weather.
